Doctors Hospital Begins Construction on Facility Upgrades
If you have driven on Shirley Street recently and wondered about the flurry of activity taking place at Doctors Hospital, the cat is now out of the bag. Building on its strong reputation as a leader in healthcare, Doctors Hospital has begun some reconstructive surgery to its facilities in order to house a new state of the art Phillips Achieva 3.0 T capable MRI scanner, new and improved conference centre and Emergency Ambulance Bay to provide additional privacy for Ambulance and Emergency Room patients.
With the acquisition of the new MRI machine, the Hospital’s MRI center, currently located on Christie Street will be housed inside the hospital adjacent to the Catheterization Lab, making it more convenient for patients and relatives. The new Philips Achieva MRI system uses new technology (magnet, gradients, RF) to provide cutting-edge whole-body 3.0T imaging, enhanced performance on an advanced platform that delivers fast, high quality diagnostic results.
As stated by Dr. Larry Carroll, Chief Radiologist, “The new scanner will allow us to perform breast imaging which is now considered a standard part of breast cancer screening in women with very dense breasts, and for pre-operative screen of all women prior to breast cancer surgery. With the new scanner we will also be able to perform Whole Body Diffusion Imaging – DWIBS which is now considered the newest technology for assessment of cancer spread.”
This new upgrade for the MRI centre will allow for convenience, comfort, and easier access for patients utilizing the services of the Imaging Department.
Additional renovations include an enclosed, air-conditioned ambulance bay which will provide additional privacy and shield patients from nature’s elements as well as a new and refocused entrance to the new admissions area. Construction will begin on Christie Street for the new and larger conference centre with state of the art audio-visual equipment.
