HOSPITALS UNITE FOR CHILDREN’S BENEFIT

Doctors Hospital and South Miami Baptist Hospital Host children’s Fun Day

For the third consecutive year, Doctors Hospital and their colleagues in South Florida, South Miami Baptist Hospital, hosted a ‘Fun Day’ for the children of three local children’s homes. The day was dedicated to and focused on the children from the Bahamas Children’s Emergency Hostel, The Elizabeth Estates Home for Children and The Ranfurly Home for Children.

Held at the Western Medical Plaza property, the children, many of whom have made lasting friendships since the launch of the event in 2005, enjoyed the various festivities and were able to spend one-on-one interaction with the Associates from Doctors Hospital and South Miami Baptist Hospital. The Western Medical Plaza was transformed into a child’s paradise with carnival rides, bouncing castles, music and games.  A delicious meal from the BBQ grill rounded out the day’s activities.

The Fun Day was brought to fruition by the hardworking team of Doctors Hospital’s Social Committee, spearheaded by Monique Anderson and Shevonne Wilson, under the guidance of Charles Sealy, Doctors Hospital’s Chief Executive Officer and Karen Vassell, Event Coordinator from South Miami Baptist Hospital.  As stated by Charles Sealy, “It is an honor to work with South Miami Baptist Hospital in coordinating such a memorable event for these special children.  We hope our contributions can help change the lives of a child by fulfilling their needs and giving our love and support.”

Gift presentations took place on the following day with visits by the Hospital Associates to each of the children’s homes. Each and every child received bags with toys, clothes, necessities, and school supplies from their friends at South Miami Baptist Hospital.  In addition, they received one “wish list” item, which was specially requested and given to that child.  Included in the items were bikes, game-boys, portable boom boxes, basketballs and many more.  The children, in each home with the highest GPA’s and those showing marked improvement in school, received individual music iPods.

The children showed their appreciation with shouts of glee and specially made thank you cards for their friends at Doctors Hospital and South Miami Baptist Hospital.  As they waved good bye, many expressed sentiments that they can’t wait until next year!
